I have been setting up with the help of many other willing helpers all day today, one of the best Bonsai shows that I have seen in Sydney.
There are over 100 top quality Bonsai on display and 5 vendors selling a large range of Bonsai goodies, there will be 3 demos during the day at 11am. ,1pm. and 3 pm. by respected bonsai artists and a help table for advice on your Bonsai, with the proceeds of this going to the QLD flood appeal.
DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS Open at 9.30am. to 4.30pm. aussie: :aussie: :aussie: :aussie: :aussie: :aussie: :aussie:

Unfortunately with steven not well recently he has not been able to set up information at the show, but we will promote Ausbonsai where we can.
If one of the moderators can get to the show tomorrow morning with some promotional material we will be only too happy to display it.
Cheers,
Jonden

Just got home from the show (my legs and ankles certainly remind me of age these days :( ) and it was fantastic. The display of trees was truly something I would have been sorry to miss.

And it was good meeting some of the forum members and folks from other clubs.

Going on the crowd there, I would have to say it must be a real success and I hope it can become an annual event.

I finally managed to get hold of a copy of Charles S Ceronio's 'Bonsai Styles of the World' from Ray Nesci's table.

A great BIG thanks to all those who put in so much effort to make the show such a treat.

(If it bad manners or otherwise unacceptable to post pictures of trees at exhibitions please delete the following.)

I just kept going back to this Melaleuca claret top: it had a real attraction for me (sorry for lack of clarity - mobile phone + shaky hand):

Thanks, Ken, an interesting sample of the good trees on exhibition! My, don't I wish I could have seen it.
The Banksia with the big trunk in your first pic looks very familiar. Could it have been a visitor from Canberra? :aussie:

I hope that there will be a lot more photos coming. :fc:

We had a photographer record the whole show and Steven will be creating a gallery of the Bonsai on display.
The show passed all our expectations and the RSL was delighted and want it as an annual event.
A huge thank you to all the clubs that participated and for all the hard work from so many people, it really helped the hole operation to come together smoothly and thank you to the RSL whose staff were exceptional in their assisstance.
Cheers

Hey Jonden,

The show was a real credit to yourself & all who organised & worked at it. It is a great day for bonsai in this country & maybe one day I might have something worthy of exhibiting with such great trees.

The RSL deserve a huge thankyou for having it in there space & the staff were amazing, once they knew I was there for the bonsai show they were even nicer (if that is possible)!

Looking forward to next year
Matt

Fabulous day yesterday! 2 x 12 hour days and my feet are killing me.
115 trees. 3 Demonstrations, all with standing room only.
We counted 720 poeople. Many coming back more than once!
The CEO of the Merrylands RSL want us to come back again.

The Security based registrations using a new system that was developed worked well and I thank everyone for their patience.
I am so pleased with the effort put in by everyone and may even next time I call for the assistance of those that showed some wonderful skills in the day for some input in future shows.

It was just terrific. Now I could be bias of course, but I would like to hear from others.

Hi Kym
I was there and yes it was a fantastic show, really unbelievable. :tu:

Was only able to stay for the first demo. It was a juniper styled literati by Chris. Narration by your good self.

Each and every tree that was on display were of a very high quality and it is now my aim to produce a tree of a high enough quality to warrant a place in this show.

Thanks to everyone who put in the time and effort to make the show such an enjoyable experience.

Unfortunately I was only able to catch the final demo by David, but I did get a few snaps which I have posted on my blog, here

I had a great time helping the two days at the event. I've been so tired I've had to disappear at work for a 20 minute catnap at 2pm, and still fallen asleep at 9pm last three nights.

A big thankyou to the people who hung around all day, both days to help bump-in and out (Mark, Alan, Joe, Clinton, Paul - especially those enormous heavy trees).

thanks to everyone who brought a platform trolley and then let us use them all day. And to all those people who stayed an hour or two and helped out after registering their trees.

A hooray for Fran who wrote the beautiful place cards, and both Kym and Fran for registrations, and check-out, and Dianne for check-out.

Most importantly, John did a great job of displaying where the trees went, (we did not put club trees together - but mixed them with everyone's), the variety was terrific and you just walked around with pride, to see that all the clubs got together - banded together - as one - for the love of bonsai.

my favourite moments...
- paging john to come to reception
- asking members who were registering their suiseki if they knew if their stone was volcanic, sandstone, or balsamic
- being told that I couldn't be ADHD because those people are intelligent
- having a biffo with Kym in the lift
- brenda showing off her "numbers"
- generally making people laugh

I was hardly asked any questions - but the best one was "do they grow?", and the guy who wanted a hundred yr old tree with low maintenance ** sigh***

I'm sure to see you around, Leonarda
