fig tree re-style and defoliate

this is my fig that iv had for a couple years and Im kiinda lost with it, id tried root over rock but haven't repotted since I put in that pot 1.5 years ago, id lost all motivation with this particular tree and let it grow out but 2 much so I chopped 2 branches off defoliated it and re-styled it but still not happy with it.
any advice would be great!

HI mcraig89,

Have you considered chopping above the first lefthand branch and using it as the new leader?

yeh that was my first thought but I wasn't to sure how to go about it, will see how it looks in a few weeks than re-asses it I think.

Don't be shy. Chop just below where you start the wire. Plant the bit you chop off.
Then repot into the ground/colander/larger pot (not massive pot), take the opportunity to root prune hard.
Feed with seasol and it'll be fine. Ask yourself, do u want a
Bonsai that's "ok" or do you want a great bonsai. You'll be glad you chopped it back

Is it too late in the season to make a cutting from where I take the chop,
I just looked at the sticky thread on growing fat figs and I think I wanna give that ago.

I agree with these guys, mate (on both points). But I would also plant the bottom into a larger pot and place some sphagnum moss around the base and try and thicken up some of those roots around the rock (maybe get some more) while you develop a new trunk.
