Had a wonderful visit today from Averil and Bob Stanley, I have not been so nervous since I was Executive Chef at a Diplomatic Residence and we were cooking for Leo Schofield.

In both cases it was a wonderful experience, and the encouragement and kind words from Averil, reassures me that we are heading in the right direction with our little business, we have the right quality of stock and the prices are very competitive.

I am slowly working my way through listing the stock on our Facebeook page and it has been so nice to receive so many messages of encouragement from the Bonsai community.

We also had several visits today and have even sold some trees

We had a visit Saturday from Nathan of Otaku Bonsai who has just returned from a month working in Japan, it was great to have a chat to hear about his experience over there and to discuss the difference in the levels of stock they have in Japan compared to what he have available here

did he give you anmy advice on what sort of stock to carry and or how to develop good stock?

Hi Ken,

The biggest difference is that they think ahead and grow stock for the next generation, which is something we do not really do here YET, he was very happy with the stock that I had on offer and left a deposit on a nice JBP

With the extreme heat we have had over the past week I was a little concerned that it would have a negative affect on some of the trees, so I doubled my watering to morning and night and I have found they they loved the heat the pines are shooting new bugs and some of the new growth on the elms is 30cm long after 5 days.

The growth on these stock trees has been almost 4 times what I have seen on my personal trees

I am guessing it has been a combination of the warmer and more humid weather up here and the few really hot days and extra watering

This is one of our Bonsai Stock Junipers or was, over the last few days I picked out one of our trees to work on as a project, just so I could have a tree to show people where a few hours and a decent stock tree can get you. This tree was is approx. 20 years old has beautiful movement on the trunk and great branch placement, I started by removing a few branches that bulked up the tree too much, one of them I left a bit to Jin, then spent about 2 hours wiring and styling, repot into a unglazed pot and good water and spray with seasol.All up this tree took he about 3 hours start to finish and it has come out very nicely, about 6 to 8 weeks of TLC and food and it will be a very nice tree indeed

For any Bonsai enthusiast who is chasing quality Bonsai Stock we are having a New Years Sale until the 13th of January and all of our hand selected stock is reduced by 10%

Just over three weeks ago I de candled all of the JBP stock that we have and already I am seeing great budding on many of the trees, they just love the warm weather and the water I have been giving them

Joined the Bonsai Society of Queensland today at their first meeting for the year, had a great afternoon with a good group of Bonsai enthusiasts

With all of the hot and dry weather we have been having I have decided to put a shade cloth covering to help protect the trees

Yesterday I measured up and went and purchased all of the timber

Also I ordered online the shade cloth I am going to use 50% I found a place where I can get 50 mtrs at 1.8mts wide for $125, where as at the hardware store it was $79 for 6 mts, and the stuff I have purchased comes with a 5 year warranty

Today I dug the holes and rapid set them in, screwed the front posts into the existing sleepers, and this afternoon screwed the cross beams on.

It is looking good, I have also placed a slope on it as I have some large gums around in the green space and I get lots of leaves dropping

I will also install a watering system to spray down once I have the shade cloth on
