In the 5 shohin I posted on my blog, it can be observed that materials dug from the ground, be it yamadori (from wild) or niwadori (from garden), are better bonsai materials. I hope beginners realise this and start putting some of their young stocks into the ground for the future. The Taiwanese developed thousands of fantastic bonsai from materials they dug from their garden/farm. Some of them were cuttings planted over 30 years ago.
