Bill Valavanis in the West

Post by Pup »

Hi yall We have beenoff line so I have not had a chance to post but here are some of what went on and yes I did get my cm's mixed up with my mm's.

In inches this tree started at 47 finished at 27 inches so do the math.

It is a Cupressus macrocarpa.

Mr Pup,

I am assuming he carved out the dead wood and curled the living bark into the pot?

No pics during the process?

Regards

He carved out the deadwood, wrapped, wired and twisted the bottom half of the trunk.
If you have not seen Bill yet, ask to see the photos which he has of the entire process
Q: Why are we all here?
A: Because we are not all there.

Crazy Bill
Very interesting but I wonder why an airlayer although taking longer would not be safer?
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

There is no living tissue, other than what is around the back, so you will only get roots on one side. What you see Bill holding up is the living wood, if you look at th point where the only living part is shown after the roots have been cleaned. That is why this avenue was opted for.

Thanks Pup, Maybe I am missing something but I can only think of how the back live section in time will now only have two large roots?

Can you explain the long term result Bill is after here? How does this create roots where there is dead wood as an airlayer would not?

Brett I gave you the explanation I got, so I passed on what I was told. Plus he has said as with all these types of procedures, even airlayers there is risk. The aftercare is the all important thing.

I also think this was much more entertaining than watching an airlayer. When asked about this, Bill said I do not do this often, like Kimura but I can do it.

Cheers Pup

Fair enough, It is definitely great to see what can be done. It could be used in many ways I am sure. I just wasn't sure if I was missing something. I kept looking at the broom pole wondering where it went
Thanks :tu:
