adelaide hills
The cooler weather is coming and I'm shifting into collecting mode -just wondering if anyone in the adelaide hills area knows of any good legal areas for elm ,hawthorn, firethorn, prunus or any other appropriate plants--I'm in the riverland so because of time constraints I need to be pretty specific with my target areas. thanks

Elm and olives on my road, it is a Landcare reveg site, so they love it if you help remove stuff! Not a lot of small olives left, have scrounged anything trowel sized aleady... This is Kanmantoo/Dawesley
There are still a pile of radiata pines at Callington, can show you where, yes they need to go somehow, and I have permission to play a bit. I have my favourite quiet spots for hawthorn and oak, around the Mt Barker area, too, not sure you would call them strictly legal, but unloved weed patches. Already have a haul of 1 year oaks which I don't mind sharing, they weren't going anywhere in a great hurry anyway.
Still have a couple of liftable large olives on my place, that is liftable with a mattock and chainsaw, bit big for me.You can help yaself to gumtrees too. Casurina I am trying to grow for revegetation on our site, so not lifting seedlings of them, that is verticellata, but I have muelleriana in pots, more than I need.

If you used the prince's highway you passed within 30 metres of the elm patch, hehe.
No worries, anytime is as good as any other here.

Chris goes out collecting a lot on the weekend, he could help you a lot too.
I checked the hawthorn spot today, as I haven't been there for a year or two, can report lots of 3 foot high, hawthorn, olive, elm and oak all in a very quiet dead end dumping spot. Quite a lot would have followed me home, but a combination of bad back and no tools and dry soil means they stay there at least until after the weekend rains.
After that I might pick some up and they can follow me home, if you are short of time come and visit me and pick out some hopefuls from things I already have potted and growing.
Easter weekend would be a great time, I am hosting a garden gathering (mostly herbs/veggies) on Monday, with an Easter egg hunt for the many kiddies expected. Can't spend any time going out to show you the patch that day, but you are welcome to turn up and scrounge my yamadori. The other visitors are internet people I haven't met yet either, they will be scrounging herb and veg mostly I think! Just afternoon tea, if you have kids let me know and we will put out extra eggs!
