Gleditsia and A.pal Úkigumo' as Bonsai

Hi Folks

Are Gleditsia 'Sunburt' / Honey locust and the Japanese Maple 'Ukigumo' used as bonsai? Why I ask is that even though both are grafted, they, especially the maple, will be weak because of the lack of green in their leaves.

If they are any pics would be interesting.
