Colarado Spruce Challenge

Post by alpineart »

This will be a long term project .I hope to turn these 2 Spruces into something a little or is that big difference . I purchased these off Ebay with a very vague description .

To my surprise they were i bit bigger than anticipated actually about twice the width .The height was correct at 1.5 metres but i assumed from the photo's they were around 600mm wide and in pots about 400mm . But none the less i will hack and chop both trees into something resembling Yamadori then take it from there .Height is 1.5m x 1.5 m wide and the pots are around 700mm .

The bases are about 100mm with trunks around 50mm + .They are actually "standards" with bean pole straight trunks . I repotted the next day and removed an infestation of curl grubs from the damaged tree and a couple from the healthier plant .Time to recover however i did remove a little unwanted foliage to lighten the load on the roots and to direct the energy to the new shoots .I did attach a clamp or two onto the trunks for some much needed movement .Looking forward to see if they recover from the curl grub feast . If anybody knows what the root stock it would be , i would very much appreciate your assistance .Cheers Alpineart
