Hey mate, great tree!

I'm aquiring a few similar atm.
This is where I would like to take, my similar plants with that low branching. I have about three almost identical, especially my squamata. Check this thread for ideas. I found some suggestions useful.

I still haven't taken the top of mine but it would serve as an excellent example of taking a larger tree and making a smaller one.
I would turn it about 45 degrees to the left and remove the jin, or try to graduate it in. I tried to graduate the jin from the trunk in software but it didn't go well as the jin doesn't have enough length. If you tapered the trunk slightly like my virt, you could keep the jin at the top.
Any way, like I said, this is where I am heading with my stock, good luck with yours.
But I'm new to bonsai, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
Edit- Just re-read the title... Literati.... That angle I have suggested kinda ruins your literati, perhaps at not such a angle maybe 15-25 degrees instead..
