I repotted and added some jin my literati JBP today,
Whats everyone think of it? any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hey looking good mate!

Now I'm still a novice at this bonsai thing but i'll throw in my 2c anyway if nothing more than for my own experience in design
If it were my tree I would put some movement into the jin you have created as the section of trunk below it does not move too much. Also i'd gradually shorten that right hand branch and let the tree get some growth on.

As i said I'm still a novice so I'm just thinking about what i'd do it were my tree. Otherwise good work

the trunk has a fair amount of movment at the top (as much i could put in at the moment) the photo doesn't do it any justice ill get a better one tomorrow.
I'm slowly putting more movment into the trunk aswell, little bit by little bit. when i get myself a trunk bender it'll be easier
more photos comming tomorrow though. this one was a rush before i ran out of light.

Hey mate, great tree! I'm aquiring a few similar atm.
This is where I would like to take, my similar plants with that low branching. I have about three almost identical, especially my squamata. Check this thread for ideas. I found some suggestions useful. viewtopic.php?f=131&t=5614&hilit=squamata

I still haven't taken the top of mine but it would serve as an excellent example of taking a larger tree and making a smaller one.
I would turn it about 45 degrees to the left and remove the jin, or try to graduate it in. I tried to graduate the jin from the trunk in software but it didn't go well as the jin doesn't have enough length. If you tapered the trunk slightly like my virt, you could keep the jin at the top.

Any way, like I said, this is where I am heading with my stock, good luck with yours.

But I'm new to bonsai, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.


Edit- Just re-read the title... Literati.... That angle I have suggested kinda ruins your literati, perhaps at not such a angle maybe 15-25 degrees instead..

UI sorta kind like what Mitchell has done, More movement in the top bit, but I woud stand it back up some tho.
The tail section I would shorten back to remove the logn bits on the ends back to the last whorl wher they qll separate

The Jin either needs some thinning and movement if you can or shorten it somewhat

thanks for the virt mitchell, i was close to taking the top section off the other day (same as the virt) but im working twords getting heaps of movment in the top thinner branches and when i unwire im going to take a jin down a bit and make it a bit thinner. also it has 3 small branches 1/4 of the way up the trunk im planning to grow out for a while for jinning

Ive had a couple of wines but I reckon that top jin should be removed and apex moved to the right away from the trunk-ummm

gday pal,

dumper hit it right, to big a pot but for development all good other than that kink that tail a couple of times to bring it up so there isnt so much length in between foliage areas.

i moved the top branches to the right more, i can't bend it to much more then i have at the moment. ill keep working the tail section over a few months to get some better movment. the jin got taken back and thinned out i want to jin one of the top branches once it develops a bit more also
i got a couple of photo's, again i took them as its getting dark so there not the best
