Illawarra's 11th Bonsai Workshop Weekend
Hi to all bonsai lovers,
Illawarra Bonsai is still able to receive registrations for the upcoming 11th weekend workshops at the Banksia Complex, The Tops Conference Centre off Bendena Garden Road, Stanwell Tops on the weekend of the 17th - 19th September, 2010.
This weekend is filled with everything bonsai related, including a woodworking workshop where wooden stands are made not only for bonsai but wooden carved stands for the rockhounds who collect beautiful stones - the art of suiseki.
This weekend is so flexible where you can customize it to suit your individual needs - you may just want to come along to enjoy the bush scenery and the camaraderie of other members from other bonsai clubs, you may wish to bring your own trees along and work on them in the peace and serenity of the beautiful bushland setting, or you may want to participate in a structured workshop with our interstate guest Derek Oakley and Clinton Nesci, or you may want to just get down and get dusty to create something out of wood; a suiseki daiza, a bonsai stand or you may just want to sand your own timber slab down to display one of your bonsais.
There will also be formal demonstrations from our invited guests - Derek Oakley (from Perth) and Ray and Clinton Nesci.
You will be well fed - I can promise you that!
As I mentioned, structuring your own weekend could be that you only would like to attend for one day and that can also be considered. Most of us stay for the whole weekend in very comfortable accommodation but if you would like to come along to see what goes on I will guarantee that you will have a wonderful and enriching time with us.
If you would like to bring your spouse or partner along to view the formal demonstration on the Saturday night after dinner that is also possible. For this, you only need to pay an extra $15 for a beautiful 3 course meal and see the demo.
The weekend starts on the Friday night and arriving by 6 pm, to settle in and to see a fun demonstration to get proceedings started. Then to settle in in readiness for the serious side of bonsai, trees, rocks, woodworking etc. etc. with a few surprises mixed in for a bit of fun.
You can go to our website http://www.illawarrabonsaisociety.org and download the registration form that includes all of the information you require. All bookings need to be in the week before the actual weekend for catering purposes.
Hope to see a lot of you there and remember this weekend is there for all clubs to mix and mingle to enrich and share our knowledge of those little trees in small pots that we all love!

G'day Pup,
Yes mate - I will be there - will be good to catch up again. If I choose to do a workshop with you, what should I bring to challenge your mind? Wanna work on a shohin, or something chuhin sized? I am not going to bring anything bigger.

I am all for Shohin or Chuhin as I am personally height challenged in other words a shorthouse. As long as it is something you are familiar with as you are the one looking after it when you take it home.
I am looking forward to this very much. See you in a fortnight. Cheers

HOORAY - packing pot, plants and nearly time
it rained on Tuesday, but the forecast is perfect for the weekend. T-shirt weather during the days, a bit chilly at night, but the rooms are warmed.
cant wait...
