Dear subscribers to Ausbonsai,
I would like to extend an invitation to come and join members of Illawarra Bonsai Society to a weekend of sharing bonsai knowledge with other members from clubs around Sydney and interstate. Not only is there bonsai (and lots of it) there are also Suiseki daiza workshops and making of bonsai stands. Also one of Illawarra's member is a potter and she will be bringing along clay so you can get creative and get your hands dirty and make some pots or ornaments - whatever takes your fancy.
There will be structured workshops with our invited guests namely - Derek Oakley from Western Australia and a fun duo in Ray and Clinton Nesci. All of our guests will be doing demonstrations as well as conducting the workshops. There are a few extra surprises along the way and after the workshops on Saturday afternoon there will be a 'Happy Hour' where we indulge in some nice treats to eat and drink before proceeding to the dining room for a sumptuous meal, followed by a demo from Derek in the evening.
The accommodation at the venue is very comfortable and the rooms are centrally heated. They supply the mattress, doona and pillow and all you have to bring is your sheets and personal belongings. There is also an ensuite bathroom in every room.
If you didn't want to be involved in the structured workshops you can bring your own trees along and work on them outside with the woodworkers. Or, you can just come along and 'look see' what everyone is doing. It is a great social weekend and also you can come along just for the day if you wish. You can structure your own weekend on what you would prefer to do.
Then there is the food - WOW! there is enough with breakfast, morning and afternoon teas, lunch, dinner and supper all supplied at a very nominal fee. I will guarantee that you will come away a couple of kilos heavier.
The venue is only about a 20 minute trip south from Sutherland in a bushland setting overlooking a beautiful escarpment - very modern and comfortable.
The idea for this weekend is to bring together bonsai people from other clubs or societies to share information and meet and greet with other enthusiasts. We all have the same passion so why not share the information.
For more information and to get the registration form go to our website http://www.illawarrabonsaisociety.org and click on 'The Tops weekend'.
Hope to see some new faces at our 11th year at this fabulous facility.
Till then,
Brenda Parker
(President of Illawarra Bonsai Society)
