Liquid Amber - Autumn in Nth Qld!

Post by Glenda »

I never thought I would see the day, but my liquid amber seedling has some autumn colour! And it is only May! We must be going to have one cold winter this year :D

Not much colour I will admit, but hey! This IS North Queensland. :D :D

I have a Japanese Elm that has about 4 mature leaves on it that are red - the rest are still green. First time I have seen that - maybe it will be a bit chilly, might have to find my jumper

Who would have thought? Usually the only cold ones in Mackay are the ones that come in cans or brown bottles.

In 2007 we had the coldest day on record - 11 degrees maximum. It has NEVER got below 0 here on the coast, but does on very rare occasions on the range inland. Maybe this year we will break those records!

Have you maintained your usual watering regime? My liquid amber shows much better colour when kept on the dry side in Autumn. Same for the trident maples so maybe the colour is due to less freequent watering? Whatever the reason I'm glad that you got some colour happening.

Hi Edward - watering just a little less as the heat is dropping, but not by much cos the humidity is dropping also. Maybe I will get more colour if I water less! Funny thing though, cos in Tasmania where the maples are just glorious, the summers are dry and autumns are damp, as are winters.
