Winter Digging Vs Winter Repotting

Post by kvan64 »

Hi all,
I have a question here:
Some species are recommended to be collected/dug up in winter. Why aren't the same species recommended to be repotted during winter time?
Always we hope someone else has the answer.

The "winter time" refered to is usually late August which is a time when most trees are dormant or reasonable quiet in growing terms. Certainly deciduous trees are best done at this time and they are also repotted at the same time. Their new growing period should start not long after this.

August down here is where the buds are beginning to swell on evergreens and deciduous. Also the time candles are elongating preparing to open. this means all the energy stored in the roots is about to burst up into the tree. this is good timing. rather than already burst and expended. Natives oct / nov good for this down here and right through feb/mar. this year time to neck a couple of natives!!! 8-)

Nice to know as I was told by my uncle that I have permission to dig as much as I want from his friend's farm/bushland full of malaleucas and callistamons.
Always we hope someone else has the answer.
