Ausie Natives,anyone?

hi,everyone!
this is my first post since March when i first joined Ausbonsai community. And i have learn so much from this very friendly and useful website.
I mean it is packed full of information thAT I BEEN looking for( before all i had is some bonsai books and they are all very confusing )
SO,today i decided to introduce myself to this lovely Ausbonsai community and hoping that within my limited ability,i can make some contribution.


i have to say that im very fond of Aussie natives,especially after seeing Pup's Maelaluca collection and Antonio's demo on the Black SheOak. since then i have been looking for Casuarina stock in all the local garden centres(without success!) But on Wednesday i accidently discovered this Marrickville Community Nursery where they only grow native seedlings to plant along the Cook river.They have casuarinas,acacias,eucalyptus,etc..and all are for sale $3 each!!!!!
If anyone in Sydney interested in Oz natives,just come have alook! All the ladies working there are volunteers& very friendly.

oh,forgot! i bought myself 5 casuarinas,2 eaucs and a little FOREST of Harpullia pendulas(which i had no idea what it is?)

Hi Thuy, thanks for showing your new stock. Question: Is harpulia pendula the genera name? Or anyone, the same question.

hi woodi, i think harpullia pendula is the botanical name,common name is tulipwood. I had no idea what it was either until i googled this afternoon. I bought it just because it looked interesting n cheap($3) !!!!

only problem with $3 stock is they are a good few years yet from making a nice bonsai
Great for putting wire on an developing movement when young, but they will need few years growth yet before styling as such.

hi,Ken!
yeah i know they are quite young and small. Its because im only a beginner in the art of bonsai-i still have a lot to learn-therefore i just want to experiment with them.
To get to know my trees and the general ideas.
That was actually my first wiring job i've ever done!
( most of the time its just clip and grow)

Seedlings are fun and a good way to get to know the species, better to be killing a $3 plant than a $300 one, if it should come to that! Nice to learn how they behave in your situation and climate, and although they wont be ready for bonsai pots for a while, you can do some prestyling, trunk movement and taper work, which would be impossible with a larger tree.

More than a few years, if they survive the first few years you will be looking at them the rest of your life or until you sell or trade them.

Enjoy... it is exciting isnt it.
