rewiring "urban yamadori" X-media juniper
i have been working on this tree now since september 2007, this is when it was lifted from my neighbour's trampled front yard garden...

after growing it in a styro box for 8 months, it had filled the container... so time for a change.
i took it to jermaine's place for a workshop on light compression wiring, after demonstrating on heavy bending to the southern tasmanian bonsai society...
and this is the result so far...
any suggestions or critiques welcome

Re: rewiring "urban yamadori" X-media juniper
Very impressive Aaron
I have yet to do anything of this quality yet, so I cannot comment anything.
Is this a shimpaku (Chinenis [spelled]) juniper?
I like this tree because of its compactness and a rather powerful cascade angle -- it makes me think of a juniper
that has been treated badly by the natural environment and yet it has manage to survived.
Would you be able to give us the side views when it was still in the box? And some measurements of the final one?
Thanks.
Cheers,
Viet.

Re: rewiring "urban yamadori" X-media juniper
Hi Aaron,
Nice job on this one! That being said i do think there is something that is not quite right. I have looked at teh final image for a while now and i am still not entirely sure what it is.
I dont really like the rock against the trunk. In a cascade the trunk functions as an apex and i think the rock detracts from this. The other thing that slightly bothers me is that the foliage apex is at too similar a height to the trunk apex. i made a quick (bad) virtual to show what i mean.
I Understand that it is early in this trees life and i am not sure if compaction of the apex like this is possible. But i feel it would improve and already impressive tree.
Hope you dont mind me making those suggestions, i really like this bonsai and could easily make room for it in my collection
Great bonsai with a bright future i think.
You did a good job on it!

Very nice Aaron!
A powerful cascade and an excellent progression. I have no suggestions on improvements as it looks to me that you have a clear image in mind of where you are going. I can't wait to see the Jins completed!
Thanks for sharing with us mate
Regards,
Steven

Very nice Aaron
Like Jow, I do not like the rock as well. Looks like to me it is there to hold the tree down in the pot

Re: rewiring "urban yamadori" X-media juniper
thanks guys
ken and jow,
you are both correct, i forgot that rock was even there, i was showing a mate the rock and placed it on top of the soil before the photo, it's not actually supposed to be there.
and well picked up jow, the height of the canopy is supposed to be this low, if you check out the photo called restyle, i have the canopy the same hight as you... but this tree has grown quite well and i want to leave it a bit longer.
ill show some more photo's of different sides 2nyt

Nice work Aaron, in a very short time also! Dont rush it now, let it get strong and healthy and think for the long term benifits. Nice material Aaron.

I like the right photo. I feel the tree looks stronger there.
Young and hostile but not stupid.

Re: rewiring "urban yamadori" X-media juniper
i thought that aswell asus, more movement in the trunkline too. also it would conform to the "cascades down the front of the pot" but...Asus101 wrote:I like the right photo. I feel the tree looks stronger there.
im not a conformist.

thanks all the same.

Hi Aaron,
Have you considered writing about it for Bonsai Focus? I think a project of this quality should be
made known to Bonsai Focus.
It is just my thinking
(I saw two grammar mistakes in my previous post.)
