[SYANBS] R3 - Melaleuca stypheliodes

Post by Ryceman3 »

Time is creeping away and I haven't got anything much prepared for this comp, so today while I was out at a local park I spotted a stand of Mels that I managed to forage a few seed pods from. I'm pretty sure these are M stypheliodes... very similar if not.
These seeds are now in an envelope, in a warm place to hopefully pop open and drop some seed that I can look to plant in the coming couple of weeks.
Thanks for the effort in putting this comp together Promethius ... let's see what we have in 6(ish) years from now!

The seed from the collected pods had dropped into the envelope, so it was time I got to putting it into a pot and growing it.
I used the bog method (as I have done and discussed previously in another thread ... https://www.ausbonsai.com.au/forum/view ... 64#p272164 ), the only adjustment being I used sifted fines from my usual bonsai mix combined with perlite (about 2:1) instead of the cactus mix, because I didn't have any.
Should hopefully see some action in a few weeks!

It's been a while but I still have a few of these that germinated and have made it this far.
I had a bit of a disaster with my native seed trays while I was away over summer that left them effectively without water on some pretty hot days. Nobody really to blame but myself, I managed to fry quite a lot of them (not just these Mels) which in the end might be a blessing because I don't have to cull numbers!
Anyway, here are the ones that pulled through. A few of the tops have been munched by the local possums so I need to get these into the bunker and out of the firing line... if I can find room!
I need to think about root work and repotting very soon I think, before they get too wild.
