Cotoneaster at Skippy's Carving Day

Post by Watto »

Firstly, a big thanks to Skippy and his family for inviting us to enjoy a bonsai carving day at his place. What a fantastic day it was for the "Goulburn travellers", good food, good friends and good bonsai. Their hospitality was fantastic!!!!
Although I didn't take enough photos, here are a few of the main tree I worked on, with help and input from Skip and others. This is just the bulk carving and the detailed and refinement carving will be completed over the next 12 months or so, but it's a pretty good start when you consider how much old wood has been removed. The actual carving took about five hours or so.
A bit of history on the tree - it was dug from a local (Goulburn) garden about 7 - 8 years ago and was more than four metres high at the time of cutting and digging. It spend about 4 or 5 years recovering in a large wooden box and was then transferred to this mica pot a few years ago. It flowers (white) and then has small red berries. It grows quite vigorously and I trim it on a regular basis.
Hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed the day.
Cheers
Watto

Man, if that is just the bulk carving then I really want to see it when the detail is done! The carving you did today is superb and the photos really don't do it justice. It was great to be there and see a 'pretty good' large bonsai carved into something really special.
