Fungus - accelelerating in the heat?

Post by kvan64 »

I only had this problem with the leaves of my chilli trees - brown spots and white spots. In the last several days, they are spreaded to my bonsai. My English Oaks leaves are covered with white spots under and over the leaves. Is it because of the heat that accelerate the problem? I water the plants at night time and this may add to the issue. Any suggestion about what I could do about this? Oh, what do I need to spray with?

Edit: added some pics

Hey Kvan,

I have been having the same trouble with one of my oaks also lately
I was in at bonsai south today and the advice I was given was when watering to just water the base of the tree and not the leaves.

Hope this helps

thats a good idea bout watering the base area, will stop that mildew on the leaves, thats what it is, wipe it off with a damp cloth carefully and you should be good DK.

hows everything going?

Try Anti-Rot by Yates. It is a systemic fungicide so can be spayed on foliage and soil. It will turn affected areas brown but this will stop fungus spreading.
'Watering at the base' is one option and keeping well aereated (air flow all round foilage) is another but sometimes if humidity is high very little can be done to stop fungus except spraying. Some people also suggest using a milk based spray helps reduce fungus.
