Trunk problem

Post by sheba53 »

Not sure what the cause is (maybe water :?: ) From soil up trunk maybe 1/2inch gets like a dark band (black) :?: I didn't water for three days and seems to be fading.. this was the Juniper I had a go at shaping, did I cause some distress to the tree with the bending process?? It appears happy enough, new shoots and all. Just the dark mark aroung lower trunk :? any ideas please. sheba53 :)

If the marks are due to wiring. They are referred to as scaring. If this is the case, the tree will try to heal and if the marks are not too deep, they will heal sometime. Just remember to check your wiring in spring when there is quick growth to avoid scaring next time.
If there are symptoms of rotting or fungus, they will need to be treated. It would help if you have some closeup shots so that other expert members here could have a good look.

Yes it was after the watering Jamie but it was like that for a few days. So now I don't water up close to the trunk. It seems to be drying out now so I can only hope it will be ok. ;) Kvan64 I didn't wire down near the bottom of the trunk so that lets out scaring. I think from the looks of things when I repotted and shaped I was a bit too generous with the water. :) Thanks all sheba53 :)
