Suggest a good book

Post by bonsaeen »

Hi All,

Even though I have been reading a lot online but I still feel I better a get a good book on Bonsai and have a read through it all. What books would the members here suggest? I am looking for a top class book for a beginner. Thanks

Peter Warren's 'Bonsai' is perfect for a beginner. Peter learnt in Japan, but is also a champion of using local species in non-Japanese styles. You can get it for virtually nothing online. Reading his old blog is also very rewarding.

The book in question does not show the author. I have seen this on Penguin website and didn't see the author so wanted to be sure I am getting the right one. Any local australian link?

Also any more suggestions guys ?

Not so much a step by step guide but case histories of some of Colin's trees with lots of good advice on design and maintenance.

Harry Harrington has a couple of books out that I have found really useful. Harry grows stuff that will grow in Melbourne so that is a bonus. From memory the titles are Bonsai Inspirations and Bonsai Inspirations 2.
