I think alpine means pines from the shores :)
Always we hope someone else has the answer.
Bonsai is an art of shrinking.

Hi Ken , i have only discovered 3 deceased specimen "Westerns" thanks to the Powers to be .All have been destroyed and the self sown wildlings are in the process of eradication ,chopping , slashing and spraying .Very similar to Pinus Nigra Austriaca/Austrian .Th Western has the "red" candle and the Nigra has the "silver" , both have very stiff broad needle .Cheers

Not quite , Google" Western Shore Pine" AND "Pinus Nigra Shore Pine" note the similar features different coloured candles/shoots and bark furrow.Cheers

Hi Mick , 100's of thousands of klms , 70 odd motorbikes , a couple of 4x4 , {cos i'm getting too old to hang on}and 35 + years travelling in Victorian Plantation areas , yes i've seen a few exceptional european pines in my time .If i'm fortunate enough to return to good health i will get to find a few more . Cheers
