Sango Kaku - Japanese Maple

Post by alpineart »

These were purchased in a group deal with a local grower who was happy to have my " hacking and chopping" ability put to good use .

Working over 400 neglected /damaged tree's for her today , {no I didn't bonsai them} but i did cut back hard to improve the growth structure . I had to cut most of these in half to get them all into the Jackaroo . Most of these are destined for a grow bed here , if i can find one :palm: , some will be slipped into training pots , a few will be offered to members of our Bonsai Club , and the rest will become garden tree's "maybe " .

No time to sit idle , I had better get out there and conceal the rewards of my labor before the Boss comes home . ;) .

Hi rodm, it was worth the hard yakka involved to get a good discount , a days work plus a cash balance on 40 odd Coral Bark Maples hand picked .

Gidday Matt , after seeing your Bonsai I don't think these would be good enough for your pristine garden , mate they are bonsai material first and foremost , no grafts in this lot all seed grown . A garden tree could be grown out of a couple of them , but I did buy them for bonsai use only ;) in respect to the lady grower  .

Cheers Guys . Alpine

To break the boredom of slip potting these into planter bags

I side stepped the production line and planted a couple of quick trainers into large bonsai pots / trays

. Only a handful to go into bags then its back to some real work .

couldn't help myself this morning . Tossed this together in no time . I have simply slip potted these with a little tease and cut back to around 300-400mm high
P1110424.JPG
. Upon investigation of 10 out of 40 , these tree's don't have a tap root , so this has produced a partially trained nice Narebri as good as any bonsai grower could mass produce on starter material . Considering these were over 2 metres high and in 250mm pots they are very good trunks to play with . .

Clearly you have plenty of stuff to play with Alpine!
Like the potential in the single maple in the bonsai pot you put up in the second last post especially, but it appears you're spoiled for choice... Reaping the rewards of earlier efforts, Enjoy!

Hi Ryceman3 , that tree was an immediate hit with me , it has great potential . It took all of 3 cuts and a couple of snips to create  :palm: . While it took an effort to slip pot them all it was good exercise . All have now been hacked and chopped to their best potential to fit into the growing position and hopefully producing the best quality trainers from the stock purchased

G'Day Alp's, nice to see you are still "all guns blazing" into it and a nice little production line of Bonsai are being produced. Autumn colour must be stunning at your place?

Hi Bodhi , mate still need plenty of inspiration , these helped , then I was motivated to re-pot and test a few out . It would have been criminal to have let these burn .

Autumn was quite good , should be even better with a few of these laying around the yard .

Cheers , Alpine.
