Good starter tree Mason I would keep it in that growing pot for a while. In a few years it will be a very presentable tree.Has it borne fruit for you yet, if so, Red or orange?

i think the same good starter. a few things you could do is remove the apex and use the branch just under it as the new leader to create taper and further down the track use clip and grow to create ramification.
the long straight section of the trunk lacks a little movement but is not a problem, air layer at an appropriate height, this will one give you a new clean nebari radial from the trunk and two you should get two trees from it, one your air layer and the stump.
before doing this though it would be good for some of the more experienced ones out there to help with this idea of mine for young mason here as i havent had any experience with crab apple, and i havent air layered before. and how these air layer whether they go well with it or not??

ps. i like the look of the tree to the left of this one. what is it? cant tell properly, would like to see photos of that one to mate

Hey Mason, would you happen to know the botanical name is for that crabapple? Those flowers don't look familiar to me. I have an Ioensis, a Floribunda, and a Profusions but nothing like what you have in that photo. I am also surprised at how quickly flowering has come and gone. The tree is already briging out it's new leaves. I have barely had a bud break on mine. The timing of your tree seems more consistent with Prunus.

i would try northside bonsai nursery, tess and selby have a huge range to choose from and great prices. i would be there more often if i wasnt 4 hours away !

Hmmm...now that you mention it Jester. I am in Vic but my crab apples are not even close to bursting. I think you may be correct.

I have to second what jamie11 said about Tess @ Bonsai Northside for getting crab apple in QLD.... They are fantastic!
