Hi all,
Some of the new growth on my English Oak saplings look like they are being munched on.
Is this from an arthropod selfishly munching on my trees, or could it be because I may have forgotten to water on a hot day and the new growth got burnt?
Also, could this be the culprit:
who may have popped out of this now empty shell?:

Looks very much like being munched by grasshoppers more than caterpillars to me.
Always we hope someone else has the answer.

Thats a common green planthopper in your pic. I think they are sap suckers more than foliage eaters. I have the little green grass hoppers about at the moment. They are difficult to see in the plants until they hop off. Very hungry little buggers.

Thanks guys.
I live on the second floor of an apartment building, are grasshoppers known to venture so far up?

Can confirm, it is/was a grasshopper. My cat found one and ate it after about an hour of playing.
Turns out cats are good for something, hahaha.
