SWAMP CYPRESS how to encourage roots for cuttings.

I am new to your site and would like some info on getting cuttings to take root

I have recently trunk chopped my swampy and kept some branch cuttings to strike,but from what i've read every one says that it is hard to make happen

So if any body can help it would be very greatfully accepted .

Hi Colin,
I have been experimenting with a Swampy recently. If you have a look at the thread you will see what I have been doing. Swampy cuttings

I checked the cuttings yesterday and two of them have new shoots. I'll wait a little longer and see if the other two shoot before taking some more photos.

I took some cuttings in September. A range from probably 2mm - 8mm diameter. Only four were on the larger end 5mm+ and these have rooted. The smaller ones died off pretty quickly. If I remember right, the ones that died were all still green and the surviving ones had lignified (not sure if that's the right word).

They were left uncovered (ie nothing to create humidity) in a lot of shade with no rooting hormone. I used a kitty litter tray filled with what I bought as propagating sand and about 6 small holes stabbed into the bottom. They were always pretty wet. When I pulled one out to check about 2 weeks ago there were minimal roots on it, quite thick but only 20mm long max.

There is no science behind my attempt, just a combination of spare time, what I had to take cuttings of and what I could use to put them in. I will try the same again this year though to see if it was just luck.
