Early gardenia repot

Post by Beano »

I am moving the plants to Cairns on Saturday. I have a gardenia in a large half barrel pot which I buried my 8year old fish in this year after it died. The plan was not to disturb this tree until spring, but now I've realised that this pot will not fit in the car. I pruned it back pretty hard about a month ago thinking that would help it fit and it's popping new buds. Given that it will be in a much milder winter in 2 days, do you think it would be ok to dig it up and either do a little root pruning or wrap some garbage bags around its base and carry on and replant ASAP once it arrives?

Got it out! Found part of a fish skeleton... :o. Also discovered two trees! Happy with the trunk development too. Now they're in a smaller pot, waiting to be packed. It was mostly small roots, no humongous tap roots or anything. Do you think I should take more green off? That was pruned 1month ago as it is there.
