Mugo pine development

Post by CraigM »

Hi,

Recently purchased nice little mugo with some potential, just under 40cm in height. Could style and have a nice little tree, has all the branches, but currently leaning towards planting into a bigger pot and leaving to grow for a couple years to thicken up.

Busy going through past topics at present, the Advance Techniques for Mugo post is an excellent read. Recently moved to Melbourne from South Africa, trying to figure out best time for repotting etc. Would it be safe to report now into a bigger pot, open the roots a little (not prune)? Unfortunately staying in rental so cannot plant in ground, or would it be better to wait until spring (Melbourne).

Will remove the lower right branch and thin a little, and then leave to grow. What you think?

Any suggestions on potting medium while on the topic, apologies if already discussed, still working my way through posts
