Was wandering around a garden today looking at doing a few air-layers and had a strange thought - using toothpicks to aid in creating roots in soil is an accepted technique, but has anyone tried using it to create an air layer? Could it work? Might be interesting to give it a try.
Thoughts?
Cheers

It has been done many times with success. Go to our wiki for info.

Re: Toothpick Air-layer?
Can find plenty of info on using the toothpick method in the ground, but nothing about air layering. I'm talking about not ring barking the tree, just drilling a few holes, inserting the toothpicks & then covering as per a normal air layer. I believe it will work, but won't know until I try.bodhidharma wrote:It has been done many times with success. Go to our wiki for info.

Re: Toothpick Air-layer?
Giving this a go on a NSW Xmas bush (Ceratopetalum gummiferum).
Selected where to place the layer & drilled small holes right around branch. Then I used half toothpicks with the tips dipped in rooting hormone in each hole. The rest was like a normal air layer using a pot.
Now to wait...
