Chinese Elm root cuttings problem

Post by Jester »

Hi there crazy kids!!!. About 1 month ago I put some chinese elm root cuttings in a propagation box and have been very diligent with the watering; that is to say, I have made sure not to over water them at any stage. To this day, none have sprouted. Now, here is my super dumb question...

Should they been completely covered in soil? I simply have the fine roots of the root cuttings under the propagation mix with the main part of the root protruding above the soil. Have I got it wrong?

Most of the root cuttings are about 0.75 cm thick.

Regards

John

No. How much you expose is experimentally optional. You'll get differing results. It's likely you may have to wait up to another month for any action. Keep the gentle watering up and some mild sunshine. They just take a little longer to sprout than the trees you took them off.

Regs AnneK.
My favourite tree is the one I'm working on at any given time.
