June, Corky Bark Elm, Budding?

Post by irish »

Hi.

Gave the trees some SeaSol today and could not believe my eyes :o

My Corky Bark Elm has buds on it :lost:

Now it's winter, was the last time I looked.

So what should I be doing to it now, let it go, cut back, anyone having this happen to them.

I live in Junee, in between Canberra and Wagga Wagga.

Tree size is Shohin and get about four hours sun a day.

Most of the buds are at the ends of branches.

Regards.

In Sydney I would think that normal, but not Junee :palm: :lost:

Never had the problem but if they keep shooting I woud be protecting it from any frost or freezing like the do in the US and europe. Bring in to a dark garage overnight and take back out for the day.

In Sydney, I'm currently defoliating my elms. Attempting to beat the new shooting. Trimming, tidying the ramification and wiring the fine growth where necessary. I would suggest that is what you should be doing. Just ignore the new growth shorten or wire your straight branches and basically bring the whole tree IN arranging it as you go.

Regards, AnneK.
My favourite tree is the one I'm working on at any given time.
