Japanese Box looking for a pot

This Box has been in a few different pots. This being the latest and is still not quite right. This pot is 600mm wide and 100mm high. I suspect I will need a pot around 700mm wide and 120mm high.

Any suggestions.

It's a lovely specimen . I think as far as the pot goes though you have pretty much answered your own question

I think you're right, and a larger pot would make it seem more stable.

It's a graceful tree, ageing well. As well as a bit larger, would you consider a rectangular pot with rounded corners? Maybe the design is not fluid enough for an oval pot, but it might be worth a look. Possibly in a grey/green tone, or paler brown, as you're not happy with the red.

Have you considered a round pot Peter. If you thought round would be suitable you could reduce the width and increase the height thus achieving adequate root run but achieving a tighter looking appearance at the nabari. Maybe 550 wide and 300 deep?

The last pot it was in had similar dimensions. Broke it on the re pot last year.

Grey or green would be good as the foliage goes brown during the winter.

I am currently looking at the this shape.

G,day Peter I think an antique white/cream oval, would look good with the trunk colour. I have seen a lot of Maples in them with the light coloured bark/trunk and they look very nice indeed.

Hi Pup,

That sounds like a good combo. I will have to ring few Bonsai nurseries in Sydney and see what they have in stock. Its hard to find pots that size.

Hi Peter, I think that Pup is on the money with his suggestion. I also love the tree but have you thought about removing the crossing root in the middle? I find it a little distracting to the composition.

Maybe it's just me but I envisaged this might be good with a really dark pot ie grey/s, charcoal?

Tried to do a quick virt last night but had PC troubles..
