They use to say that about JBP  Always have a crack your self and if it doesnt work, explore why and then differ and try again. Many people are still going by and passing on dated and not neccessarily correct information by 2days Standards... :tu:

Personally if i was to try it, now is a good time and i would use an open mix with some spag through it in a collander... Make sure the ring bark is wide and clean and you keep the water up to it. ... :tu:

Hey Eliass,
I tried layering a cedar (Cedrus deodar), the first failed the second is thumping viewtopic.php?f=130&t=11326&hilit=cedar+layer. Both were ringbarked, the second had a band of wire placed below the cut. The first was done with pure sphagnum & suffered root rot, the second was done with an open mix with added spaghnum (like Anttal suggests). It will take atleast a full season but they will definitely layer :tu:

Hi Alias , mate combine the ring bark and wire tourniquet together and most tree's will layer . Several members here have had good results with cedars .

Cheers Alpineart
