Question on pruning Leptosperm petersonii.

Post by Damian Bee »

Good morning all.

I have a nasty case of itchy fingers with my Leptosperm petersonii. I have been letting them grow out to increase their vigour for the last 8-9 months and I see lots of nice red orange new growth on them. I have normally done my pruning through the warmer months but I am looking for reasons to prune. Without making a tragic mistake though, what is the experience of members regarding this plant? I have done it once before with Lilly Pilly at this time bit it set them back a bit, given that lepto's and Lilly Pilly are related I am cautious.

I would be a bit cautious about pruning natives this time of year. It would be much better for the tree to wait for a couple of months until the weather warms up a bit. I am sure you already know this.

Thank you for the advice/reassurance Craig. I shall have to scratch my fingers with some nice gritty potting mediums. :)
