soil ingredients in western australia

Post by myco »

hi all first time poster
im fairly new to bonsai i have been messing around a bit over the last few years
but im now starting to get into it alot more and enjoying it very much :)

i havent had to much problems with getting the things i need such as tools and wire large pots can be a little difficult to find at times
but most things i have found fairly easy to find

the one thing im having some trouble finding is good ingredients for soil mixtures i've read a little bit on here and other websites
but i just cant seem to find most of the suggested ingredients
mainly im in need of larger more coarse inorganic soils all they ever have at bunnings and places like that are your standard potting soil wich is no good

im from western australia if that helps any other westerners out there ???
if anyone can give me any help or point me in the right direction
or if there are any other threads that i should read

any help would be greatly apreciated thanks :)

Both tools and soil mix are available from the small handful of retail bonsai outlets (eg. Bonsai Emporium or Lee's Bonsai). The chap at Subi markets (Jimmy?) may have some tools etc too.

There are some big-brand "bonsai" soil mixes too, the one or two I've tried are not too bad.

Otherwise it's off to a soil/crushed rock place for washed sharp sand and good luck with the organic part.

I seem to recall that there's a chap at Malaga markets (Vina something or other) but I've had no dealings.
