Hey people,
I have about... 20 of these growing from seed (if not more) and they actually were spilled into a pot full of potting mix and spouted accidentally. As such they are all VERY close together, save a few outliers. If I allow them all to grow in this proximity, will their trunks fuse and thus give me a thicker trunk in shorter time?
Cheers,
Mo

Just a guess but I would have though that being so close together one will "run over" the other at some point and as a result only a few will survive.

That's a strong possibility, there are perhaps 3 or 4 growing more than the rest with one clear leader, however I do believe the remainder will survive for a while yet. I think though that these are incredibly hardy considering they've sprouted in bark essentially with no care at all! Fingers crossed, and I will update till death! (of the plants)

They will only fuse well if all trunks are bound together tight. If they are not, then they will push away from each other and take a very long time to even come close to fusing,.

What's a good way to bind em? i.e. so that the binding material doesn't leave scars or cut in to the trunks before they actually fuse...Sabamiki wrote:They will only fuse well if all trunks are bound together tight. Wrap with Raffia, Twine, Vet tape, Grafting tape
Most things I believe will fuse, but depends on how well and how long it will take
Why not stick a few in the ground to grow if you have a heap?

I think I'll be planting the outliers in the ground and any that don't form a perfect circle in the group as soon as they're big enough! =]. I'll most likely use a softer, wider tape to reduce the risk of causing scarring! They grow pretty slow though so I think I'll be safekcpoole wrote:Wrap with Raffia, Twine, Vet tape, Grafting tape
