Shohin ROR - where to get the good rocks!

I am posting this here as I beleive it is the right place to put it.

I am wondering if people know where to get the really interesting rocks and stones to create great shohin ROR. I see a lot of ROR but the problem is people use rocks that arent that flash. would love to know if anyone knows where to find, interesting, craggy rock. not lava rock either. real stone, nearly the quality of suiseki but for the use of ROR. making rocks is ok, but its just not the same thing is it. would love to see some really cool ROR trees if you have them. it can be a great style if done correctly, and also if more importantly the rock/stone is right, without an interesting rock, no matter how good the tree is the composition will always be lacking that little bit of something wont it.

any ideas other than importing heavy rock from OS??

Many are imported from other states by bonsai nurserires so have a look there.
Check out ebay as they often get posted there.

Do yo have any big hills with exposed areas?

I just drive down the coast to the quietest part of the beach I can find and I always come across some great rocks, not proper stone though. They have plenty of nooks and cranny's for the roots to cling on to as well . While your there pick up some seashells to cover holes in your bonsai pots they work great hehe.

thanks for the responses. closest high country I have is the blackall range which is a far drive away, will be heading that way soon though, just not sure if I should take anything as it is national park, there are areas I think arent though.

Im not actually after them for suiseki, I want them to train trees on.

KC I take it you were talking bout suseki on ebay yea? that stuff is way to expensive and nice to use for ROR style.

I did find some nice stuff out at the Boyne river though. its bout 2 hours away but.

if anyone has access to really cool rock for ROR and is interested in a trade or sale that would be awesome. pm me

edit- Im not a big fan of using rock from the beaches, it has to boiled for hours to get rid of all the salt content. would be great for premna or phemphis, even some coastal species like cassa. but cassa have this vengance against me. they dont like me one bit lol
