Hi Everyone!

In an effort to get some discussion and activity going in this forum that we all love I am going to offer up a bunch of pics for open comment.

I am open to any comment, criticism, advice, etc, etc.

You wont hurt my feelings, I am prepared for anything.

I am just happy to offer up material for discussion.

one way i see to bring out the femininity in the trunk and give the impression of more movement.

but that would also bring out the tree's main flaw.

if you wanna fix floors then trunk chop it and rebuild it. its not like its fooling anyone the way it is.

Its a bit hard to see when its in leaf but i think to make it a believeable bonsai it needs to come down in height. Total re-build required i think to take away the patio pot plant look.
The base looks like it may be worth the effort though.

I disagree. I think Japanese maples are better off a bit taller and slender than usual. They are quite elegant and feminine trees and I think going above the 6:1 ratio is preferable. Not that I mind the tougher ones but slender and tall strikes me as more attractive. Like some of Walter Pall's for example.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

Beautiful as it is. I wouldn't change this. Keep it pinched and ramify the branches further.

I'm with Antonio on this one and this may be where leigh is heading. I may like to see a branch on the low right bend with antonios virt. I also agree with Teejay it can be nice to see delicate maples above the 6:1 hieght ratio like this one.

the only thing i would like to see change is the pot. I think a different pot could only enhance the beauty of this tree

The straight section of the trunk above the first left branch worries me. I feel in Winter it woudl look a bean pole straight and be out of character withthe base

As has been said, maples can be taller than the 6:1 ratio with no trouble, but this one needs some upper work.

Movement and or taper needs to happen in the middle section of the tree, with the overall heght reduced a little as well

The branches need to be reduced to build ramification.

Any pics when not in leaf by any chance and is this tree part of your collection or is it for sale?
I think its a beatiful tree, but what you do is based on whether you're priority is selling the tree or doing further refinement or complete overhaul.....
It would suck to have to build the top again... but then again if the trunk has a dead straight area I suppose there is no other option other that to chop...?
In saying that I think if I had this tree is for sale I would definitely not chop, turnover for small business is a bigger priority, JMHO...

The tree is no longer for sale by me. You might find it at the guy who stole it's place!
Hopefully he is frequenting this forum to get some great ideas!

The pot was hand made by Petra - Harry Tomlinson's missus.
