Slanting Callistemon

Post by banksia »

I bought this tree just under a year ago at a Club sale for (I think) a very good price from a gentleman who was thinning his collection down. The tree stands at 28" tall, 24" wide and is about 3" across at the base of it's trunk. A few weeks ago I noticed that the growing box it was in, was rotting and when I went to pick it up a whole side panel came off!!. I made up a couple more and replanted it.
The planting angle isn't ideal..I think it could be brought up to the vertical a little more. It also needs abit of reducing all round and some attention to the ramification of the lower branches, but besides this I'm quite happy with it. I let it go through summer in hope of it flowering, but unfortunately, It was affected by a grug of some sort and all new growth that was to be flowers were decimated. I spoke to Pup about this and he suggested Confidor. I did this, but unfortunately it didn't do the job. My two other have the same problem too :x
Although it's not ready yet, I'd like some suggestions on a suitable pot. If anyone has any ideas..fire away, I'd appreciate it.

Cheers!
Anthony ;)

P.S Also a couple of close-ups of the bark texture. I think it's most endearing quality.

It is a nice tree, and the bark is great! Is it a viminallis?

The only issued I'd have with it is that the branching slants with the tree. I think it'd look even better were the branches to be leveled.

Great purchase! :D
I really do wish they'd hurry up and grow.

Thanks Ant & Teejay!. I'm not sure on the flowers as they did'nt come into fruition...but I think Teejay maybe onto something with C. Viminallis. Pup knows a little more about this tree than I do...maybe he could shed some light on it's past??
Teejay!. When you say that the branches should be "levelled"....I agree. I plan to get some suitable gauge wire to do the lower left-side branches in the next few days.
On the subject of a pot..any ideas?? The previous owner can't recall what he had it in last.

Cheers!
Anthony ;)

Hello Anthony. I have a bottle brush that has very similar bark. I too am unsure of the species, sorry.
I does look like it will be a bonsai of note after you have finished styling. Well done! Liam

G,day guys been watching yes I do know a bit about it Banksia. It is kings park special. Crimson flowers.
It is about 8 years old.
It was in a green oval pot and no it was not mine. It belonged to a mate, we did some native observations together, before he changed tack. :)
IN THE LIGHT OF KNOWLEDGE ATTAINED, ACHIEVEMENT IS WITHIN SIGHT
