Stewartia monodelpha

Just wondering if anyone has had any success growing Stewartia monodelpha?? My gf gave me some seed for Xmas, but I have never seen one of these in the flesh. I just hope my seeds last until autumn when I am planning to sow them Id be interested to hear anyone successes and failures. From what I have seen, they can make beautiful feminine looking bonsai

A lovely tree but difficult in Australia.

There were some imported into Australia around 1990 and used in a demo to create a group at the BFA convention in Melbourne with the first visit by Hiro Saito from Japan.

The trees were sent to the Dandenongs to keep as cool as possible to recover and grow. I enquired recently but I believe they have mostly if not all died by now. The caretaker is very experienced so I believe everything was done for them to survive.

Surviving quarantine proceedures may have been part of the problem but I am not sure.

Thanks to both of you for your responses. I'm still going to try and propagate the seeds since I have them and nothing to lose, but I don't like my chances of success. I'm guessing the hot dry summers of Adelaide will be to much for Stewartia's to survive. Pity, as they make such graceful bonsai.
