Its a weed that people would pay good money for...NICE FIND!
Just a suggestion,if it were mine and yes a guy can dream, I would go for the immediate trunk that is in that piece of material. Your early enough in the season where getting rid of the other trunk will benefit it this year.
Like I said, just a friendly suggestion for a stonker trunk

Don't flay yourself mentally when you make a mistake or when something bad happens. Just pick yourself up from the god-awful mess you’ve made, say to yourself "I must make a note not to do that again." and go on to the next step, of the hundred or so that remain.
It was collected last year by simply asking the person whose yard it was growing in(there were two) if i could dig it. Cost me a bottle of champers. the reason i wanted it is because it is a dark pink flower. The tree it is growing next to Bretts, is a cotoneaster, and yes it is in my sights. Nice virt tom, i wish i could do stuff like that. The back trunk is earmarked for aerial layering as their is another very good potential tree in it .Waste not want not is my motto. Look forward to meeting you one day Ant you seem to be a man of good knowledge and experience. If your ever up Daylesford way

thats a nice piece there bodhi, should shape up well, nice nebari, muscled up trunk, good trunk movement. hey ant, i'm just letting them all have their piece of glory for the moment, this time next week i'll reveal my final card. cheers, miyagi.
bodhidharma wrote:Yeah, nice alpine. You would have to be tempted to aerial or cut it of to that lower branch and make it the new leader.
Now if i was to do that i wouldn't have a triple tree raft .It would be easier to find another tree of that nature than replace this one .The bottom trunks have layered themselves leading to a very nice flowing Narebri and with a bend below ground level it will probably remain a triple tree .The angle on the trunk needs to be lowered , this was only discovered and dug yesterday so the next season will reveal the direction of the final design .Cheers
I just went through the whole post and I think I better set up a poll to get a winner
I am a bit confused now if this hawthorn by alpine is the cannon, why was it talked about weeks before finding and collecting. I think there is another connon to come. Any last entries?
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

Grant collected some nice ones last week.... And dont forget bigger is not always better.
the cannon ant was talking about is a hawthorn that was dug 2 years ago, it has been settling into bonsai life since & hasn't had any styling done yet. the tree is as it came out of the ground except with its new shoots attached. i can't post it until tuesday night as circumstances will not allow until then.
i would like to see what each person does with their hawthorn as far as styling & a future. i don't think it would be fair to judge the "hawthoff" on raw stock alone. what do others think, is it too soon to be looking for "winners", shouldn't we all be looking for progression on the trees. this hawthoff may go on for some months yet, it will keep us all entertained & more interested in our trees. miyagi.
