Hmmm..I get back from Japan in August. I will have to get straight back into Potting ..Hmmmm..3or 4 weeks of potting I reckon i would be needing a break. Could be just the tonic to do a dig. Hey Paddles, i could pick you up on the way through.

I figure Don wants it for propagating so I figure the trunk is not a big issue but I am sure he wouldn't mind one that could slip nicely into a pot in the future

They grow wild somewhere between canberra and sydney but its top secret aye. Olea africana

i have one of these, leaf size is no more than 8-10mm long by 3-5mm wide, thats natural size even with heavy ferts

Apparantly the africana is even smaller. I got what you have. most wild olive get to that size.

It will all depend on what sled dog races are scheduled this year, and how the dogs run...... (Victoria has not yet put it's dates up.)

The africana doesnt need any reduction. It is perfect the way it is.

That is the word Antonio but the problem is that when I looked up Olea africana it looks like a normal olive

But there does seem to be a small leaf Olive growing wild in that region.
Ray has a small leaf olive that he calls Bubble leaf olive as the leaf has a curl that makes all the leaves look like little bubbles. I believe don said this wild olive is similar but again a bit different than that
Can anyone get a picture of what this small leaf olive looks like?

The 1st week of Sept is a great fit for me, it should be after repotting the Chinese Elms, Larch and early Tridents and just before the English Elms, Japanese Maples and Spruce. Any olives I dig will probably need to go into a greenhouse for a period because the weather can still be quite bitter in September, but aside from that, it's all good.
Can't wait to meet you all.

Well didnt I say a bonsai dig on my birthday could be a message from the Gods, now I got an unexpected windfall so the money aspect is improving too.
Dont worry about sleeping on the ground Paddles, its like a firm mattress and really makes your back feel good! I sneak outside on hot nights and curl up in a blanket under the stars, dont usually try it in August tho! May need a bit more padding if its frosty.
Still have to work out transport, and make sure the bubs will be ok if Im away, or bring the bubs, who may not be comfortable in a blanket under the stars in September. We have super sleeping bags tho, would be warm enough if it doesnt rain. Maybe packing the whole famdamily and hiring a caravan is the answer. Make it a 6 berth and you can stay with us Paddles, if ya dont mind baby snoring!
