Nice one Mason, would agree with the comment re apex.
My Crabbers are only a few days away from flowering. I graft my own every year. I have a small rootstock stool bed that produces around 25-40 rootstocks (M9)every year and I graft Crab apples on it, then I plant them in the open ground for a few years. After that in the pot they go! Prune them hard in the first few years gives me good results to decide on a structure

Hey,
Thanx for all the feedback guys. i went out and looked at this plant again and its leaves sorta look like prunus aswell.

definately looks like a flowering plum to me. equally as lovely as the crab apple, just more subtle flowers but greater contrast

Apples strike quite easily from root cuttings, propagating them that way can also give you some nice trunk movement. Their branches set like iron young so it is important to wire them asap. this one Mason looks like it needs a little attention in the root area. I have no idea if they layer easily or not but I see no reason why not. I have found with my apples if you let the branches get too strong its easier to remove them and grow another rather than wire them.
A good source of species apples would be invaluable for us bonsai growers they are quite hard to come by.

Crabapples will air or Ground layer easily.
Wait till Spring and then put a layer on. Will be ready in a feww weeks
