Did you sow the callistemon and red gum seeds directly onto the soil surface or were they covered with substrate?

They were covered with a very small layer of seed raising mix. Roughly about as thick as the seeds, maybe more since they are such tiny seeds, but enough to stop them blowing away anyway.
