Wisteria Styling Help

Hi,
I am wanting to repot this wisteria that I was given in to a more appropriate pot, along with re styling and rewiring it.
Any suggestions or advice would be welcomed.

Hi Toohey

Looks very tall. How tall is it? Doesn't give the trunk much power at that height so I would look at chopping back to the first main branch on the left and developing from there. Would mean a smaller pot and you could keep the branching spread and slightly up so the flowers can hang.

You could keep the height if you want and have plenty of room to get the branches down in a weeping fashion to lower the foliage. If you did that I would tilt to the left so the apex was more over the base.

I wondered whether I took the lower brach off I could try and attain a literati style?

I would be more inclined to take the right hand trunk / branch off and then wire out the 2 smaller branches on the top.
that long straight section does not do a lot for me.

Sure could. Something different. If you get shoots I would at least try for a branch off the outside of the main bend to the left below the existing branches.

Certainly would work. Personally as I said earlier, if keeping both lines I would tilt to the left to bring the apex over the base and make it direction left. Same style would work.

Tony, would you consider the species and flowering habits? To get the most from the hanging flower (why we grow these) I would consider tilting this tree to the right so the flowers hang free of the trunk.

Michael, who did the virt, it's good to credit the work to the person that did it.. I personally wouldn't be worried about styling this particular tree for some years yet. Planting this tree in the ground would be the best solution, repot anytime before the buds break,,

Certainly a fair point Jarrod. I feel with it to the right the direction is messed with which is a major design consideration. Also only the flowers on the right side would hang free of the trunk, the rest would almost hang across the trunk. With the trunk angle I indicated I would not have the branches down so much but rather downward and spreading to keep space near the trunk and flowers hanging free. I am not practised at the verts like Rod yet (his are all fantastic) so I hope you get what I mean.

I will only ever give my opinion which is free to be considered or not. There are always different design options. I have a personal issue with what I call naughts and crosses. Naughts are big holes in the design where there is too much space, and crosses are not necessarily where things actually cross over, but where a tree has two strong lines in opposite directions as in this case where the trunk moves to the right for 2/3 and then the top 1/3 moves back toward the left with the apex finishing opposite to the direction. Personal problem and not everybodies.
