Collected Elm

Post by Chris »

I dug this up about 2 months ago and cut it back and left it in the garden bed.

I have watched such little leaves come and go so was a bit worried it wasent taking to well but yesterday i can see it's about to bust out everywhere so i did a little dance.

I was wondering about the right hand side branch and weather i should chop it as the left hand side has the good taper

rip in and help me out here :D

Hi Chris , why not leave it till the first seasons growth and select the leader then .This will give a better idea of which branch to cut off working on shoot placement .Cheers

Sorry Chris I noticed no one had answerd you I was meaning to come back :P
I agree with Alpine. I may have cut back further before I planted it but now it is starting to bud I would leave for now.
I would consider chopping back further down than either branch though so consider any lower buds as a possible new leader and cut back towards the end of the growing season say Febuary.
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.
