The JBP is a 2 needle pine, whereas the Radiata is a 3 needle one.
Check on Wikipidia.
I'd tend towards the Radiata, because of this pine's fairly bright green colour - the JBPs are darker. Still, that might be due to lack of fertiliser.

Hi Jarrod,
I pam wondering if you are refering to the trees health from the first or second photo. I purchased this tree a year ago in its current pot and I am unsure what I am doing when it comes to repotting pines. I think the fertalizing in its current soil gives too much salt build up. What time of the year and what technique is best for repotting and root pruning

For chrissakes, how can you keep guessing what pine it is when you don't know the number of the needles??

Are they all 3 needle groups? i see some of both in one of the photos. that makes me rethink me original guess.

The majority seem to be 3 but some are 2

Re: how can I be sure this is a black pine or a radiata
The needles look to soft and wimpy to be a black pine. I tend toward radiata! Does it have a nice smell when you crush two or three needles in your hand?
Black pine does not have any scent at all; while radiata does (you can get addicted to it?).

Re: how can I be sure this is a black pine or a radiata
I also lean towards Radiata. Sometimes occasional needle bunches look like they are in 'twos' but it is only two needles stuck together. I once saw a radiata that looked like it had 'bunches' of only one needle, even very close up but when you massaged the needle it split into three seperate ones. Every bunch on the whole (5 metre) tree was like that.
It doesn't look that sick to my btw.
