Hey mate, how's things going?

Just interested to see how things are going. If I had seen this thread i would have said "Your tree is dying, you did something wrong (wrong season is enough) you need to help it quick or it will be dead by the end of the week"

Now we are at the end of the week, so I'm just wondering, how did you go? To late to advise you, but following up is good, even if the news is bad. I have a slight feeling you may have saved it, especially if you carried out the De-foliation as though leaves were just sponges sucking more life out of the plant and needed to come off.

I defoliated the tree, but left a few small leaves around as indicators of progress. As expected, the petioles have browned but one bunch of small leaves on the trunk hasn't. So I'm hopeful

I bought some Eco-cweed too and watered it with that and am anxiously waiting to see what happens next...

Yeah, I've had a bit of buyers remorse actually , lol. Basically I went into Bunnings with a list of the products suggested on this forum, and one of the reps approached me and helped me locate them all. He asked me what it was for and I told him what had happened; noticing that he had myriad service and knowledge badges on his uniform.

He then told me that he swears by eco-cweed and told me how a plantation had been vandalized by arson and he'd defoliated and given a hard root prune to many of the trees and plants, bringing them back to life with this stuff. After I thanked him and said I'd consider his responses, my girlfriend insisted that I get the eco-cweed because of the reps knowledge and 'status'. Though I tried using the 'bonsai are different to normal trees and plants' argument, we ended up getting the eco-cweed in the end!

UPDATE: The two bunches of shoots I left as indicators of progress haven't died yet, and I noticed a new shoot swelling today - so I'd say things are looking good. I'll post some pictures when I'm more confident about its progress.

guys i am afraid to say this but it is a english oak and it should not be root pruned until winter or repoted until the
end of winter begining of spring and defoliating can be done in late spring early summer

OK, here are some pics of the little guy in its recovery. Seems to be shooting back well.

the first picture you posted definatly had the english oak leaves but in the second lot of pictures the leaves do
look very much like elm close up of leaves would be better help

Those leaves don't look like the ones on my Chinese Elm, and actually, the bark looks different too (though mine is immature, so that could make some difference too).

hi japh even if your tree is immature i would be sure the bark would still have the same looks
i could be wrong about that.check the leaves on the qeurcus robur post the leaves are simlar to
the first pictures posted here.
