The Combined Clubs Bonsai Exhibit held on Australia Day at the Merrylands RSL Club was a major success and packed with attendees from the moment the doors opened until the exhibitors were packing up. The bonsai on display were stunning and included a large number of very large, well trained, well styled trees in a wide variety of species and styles. The Large were augmented by shohins, many wonderful soes and flanked by a display of suiseki that was most impressive. This was really a display of what bonsai 'is' as opposed to the mallsai that so many people see as bonsai.
Small, medium or large; the trees all reflected intense training and styling and the public reacted very positively to the display. Altogether it was one of the finest bonsai displays I have seen and was well set out on plain tables with plain backgrounds so the trees showed to perfection. This show was all about educating the public to what bonsai really is and it was the ideal show to promote this art form.
Several well known bonsai retailers were on site to convert interest to application and 3 demonstrations during the day helped potential bonsai enthusiasts to get some ideas on how to style and care for the trees.
The Merrylands RSL Club is to be highly commended for their strong promotion of this event. They supplied major financial support as well as the venue, copious advertising, security and a staff that was ready and willing to assist with smiling pleasure whenever and however possible. Their investment was rewarded by over 800 people visiting the exhibition and many enthusiastic comments and the people who exhibited their trees definitely put the very best on display.
If you saw the display I think you will agree with this report. If you missed the exhibition you really missed a great bonsai show.

Now that's a great comfort to those of us who were unable to go.If you saw the display I think you will agree with this report. If you missed the exhibition you really missed a great bonsai show.

How about a good photo reportage to rub it all in?

Congrats to all those who displayed the trees, as well as to the organisers, the volunteers and all those who generally contributed to the success of this exhibition.

The Merrylands RSL must be pleased!
