thanks for that advice, it's too late for my chinese elms, becaus i just repotted them into new pots. Luckily i decided to wait a few weeks for my maples to get a bit bigger, so i can still cut the tops and tap roots :tu:

cheers,

Hi all,
Here are some update photos of my maples.

Please take note of the trees in the first photo. These are the same trees as those shown in the following photos. If you are growing trees to make a forest this idea may help. The trees in the first photo have had the same watering and fertilizing regime as the rest of the trees. Because I planted the seedlings in a shallower tray it has restricted the growth. This give me different size trees to make a forest.

your getting some great growth from those maples. i fear that i'm not getting the same result. My seedlings aren't quite as old as your's, but from your previous photos it still appears that my growth is pretty slow. What is the composition of your soil mix?

regards,
Ben

Hi Ben,
The mix I use when the seedlings are at this stage is made up of 50/50 Ray Nesci mix and Perlite, with a couple of good size handfuls of Zeolite in a bucket. I sieve the Zeolite to get a quantity of 2-3mm grains. I use this size in small bonsai pots and when used in propagation.
