Were you expecting such a hot one?
I watered this morning 24 hours after the last watering and I will need to get out there again later on when the cool change blows in. I have taken to mulching again to keep those little roots at a more constant temp in preparation for the onset of the real Summer which will probably be here at the end of next week. Only one of my trees is in a ceramic, the rest are in plastic or boxes so aesthetic of mulch does not concern me.
Take today as a warning if the recent cool weather has put you at ease in terms of watering, the last thing you would want is to take it easy on the watering.

It was a Weird day in Adelaide realy windy about 40 deg and by 3 pm the temp had dropped 10 deg back to a pleasant day i just found time to grab my daughter and head to the pool after work to enjoy a nice swim till 8.30pm

Yes Chris, we spent a lot of the day watching the CFS website for fires, however the recent fire on our road has left us with a 200 hectare firebreak, for which I suppose we should be grateful.
We seem to be missing the normal Perth weather coming over, apart from yesterday has been just lovely mild summer weather. More to come I am sure, we average 12 days over the century in summer and only one so far..
Maybe they are right, and when Lake Eyre is full we get more rain and milder weather. Lake Eyre is doing well from the Queensland weather, so that all looks like persisting for a while. I'm delighted with the garden, anyway, going to have more pleasant shade trees and productive fruit trees in my little oasis.Shadehouse 2 is giving me plenty of room for growing on bonsai and many other things. The tropical stuff like vanilla orchid, cinnamon and patchouli are all growing away happily too!

Its been hot as here in the Hunter, watering once temps hit high 20's... twice daily for little stuff, those in aka and water lovers.

I think as climate change goes on you will see Lake Eyre... full ... then spill out into the flood plain that is most of central Australia... A nice BIG inland sea in my lifetime

Love to see that vanilla orchid now its powering along....

yes you read right... it is actually Greth who has the vanilla orchid...Would love one, maybe one day when I have a spot set up for it.

Vanilla is really tropical, will only survive here if I can keep the frost off it in winter, keep water up to it in summer. But in the shadehouse it does have a fair shot at growing. Only have some shoots for now, this is a new acquisition, but hoping to get a vine in the fullness of time.
The next problem will be that it must be hand pollinated, I have heard only in the morning, so it is a long way to vanilla pods. Now you know why the stuff costs so much!!!

Mixed feelings about the firebreak, Matt, the fire got part of my olive collecting zone good news is I already cleared it of anything diggable this year, so no potensai lost, they are all enjoying growbox heaven at my place for a year or three.

The climate change predictions for SA could actually make this place a lot more liveable and better for agriculture, lets face it, nothing could make most of it much worse anyway. Would love to see an inland sea, all ya really need is a very long pipe to connect Lake Eyre to the ocean, its below sea level anyway.

Recorded 38C in my kitchen yesterday, was just watering to restore the shadehouse plants after the heat when I had to stop due to rain! Totally unforecast, very welcome, but there won't be enough in it to give most things more than a brief reprieve.

We've got late showers forecast tomorrow (fingers crossed) then a couple of 20C days which will be welcome.
